The route decision

For professional nursing practice, the procedure is homologación.

Nursing is a regulated profession in Spain. Under RD 889/2022, homologación is the recognition route for a foreign university title linked to a regulated profession. Equivalencia recognises an academic level but does not provide the professional effects required for this purpose.

Spanish-language evidence: check nationality first

RD 889/2022 requires B2 evidence for non-exempt applicants. The exemption is tied to nationality of a state whose official language is Spanish, not to the country where the qualification was obtained or the current country of residence. Verify which evidence or exemption applies to you. Employer and Colegio language requirements were not verified for this page.

What the authority compares — not an applicant calculator

ANECA’s November 2025 criteria use a benchmark of at least three years, 4,600 total in-person theory and clinical hours, including at least 2,300 clinical hours. These are authority assessment benchmarks. Do not self-convert hours or treat them as a prediction. Prepare institutional evidence showing programme duration, subjects and per-subject hours.

Ask for the exact university, campus, programme name and graduation period, then check the current official list. A listed measure is not an automatic benefit or guaranteed outcome; absence from the list is not a rejection.

Translation and apostille

For homologación, an official Spanish translation applies when a document is not already in Spanish. Apostille or legalisation requirements and the correct sequence depend on the issuing country and document. Verify both before paying. More formality cannot create missing education or clinical evidence.
